recap 3D tiles handmade in Portugal riff on experimental mid-century Italian architecture.
During the reconstruction that followed WWII, the palaces of Milan became fertile ground for architectural play in a way that ordinary Italian homes did not. Entryways in particular were often defined by bold tridimensional tiles. Studiopepe principals and creative directors Chiara Di Pinto and Arianna Lelli Mami pay tribute to that phenomenon—and the era in general—in their second collection for Portuguese manufacturer Theia: terra-cotta and tin-glazed earthenware (i.e., faience) tiles featuring geometric facets. Rectangular Velasca and Sempione and square Missori—all named after Milan neighborhoods—come in 37 colors across gloss and matte finishes. theiatiles.com
