The project regards “accumulation” as a process of generating space and materials, exploring how materials, knowledge and architecture are gradually formed over time. The installation brings the lightweight vault construction technology bóvedas tabicadas back to the Arab region, presenting a journey of return: rebuilt with local stone, achieving a return on the material level; and the Spanish word tabicadas is derived from the Arabic Tašbik (تشبيك), which also constitutes a return on the etymological level.

The project explores accumulation as a spatial and material process through which matter, knowledge, and architecture are formed over time. The installation reintroduces the lightweight vaulting technique bóvedas tabicadas to the Arab region, presenting a journey of return: a material return through its reconstruction with local stone in the region, and an etymological return, as the Spanish term tabicadas derives from the Arabic word Tašbik (تشبيك).

The project transforms the courtyard into an open workshop, using repeated arrangement of stone arches to form seats, stages and enclosure components, allowing the space to show the gradual formation process of the building.

Transforming the courtyard into an open workshop, the project is composed of repeated stone vaults that serve as seating, a stage, and enclosing elements, creating a space that reveals architecture in the process of becoming.

Amman Design Week was founded in 2016 by Queen Rania Abdullah of Jordan to provide people with the opportunity to immerse themselves in local and regional design and culture. As the fourth event, Amman Design Week 2026 regards “Accumulations” as both a state and an urgent task. This is not a tribute to the collection of objects, but an in-depth consideration of how time, effort and knowledge are constantly accumulated in a process that is often difficult to detect, gradually forming cultural and material potential.

Founded by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah in 2016, Amman Design Week is an immersive experience in local and regional design and culture. In its fourth edition, Amman Design Week 2026 presents Accumulations as both a condition and an imperative. This is not a celebration of things collected, but a profound meditation on how time, effort, and knowledge accumulate, often imperceptibly, into forms of cultural and material potential.
