The project involves the transformation of a previously partitioned apartment into a spacious Belvedere Loft located in the area of Mavili Square, in the center of Athens.

The proposal utilizes light and furniture design to create a serene minimalistic ambiance.

Occupying the top floor generated by the second “retire” volume setback of a residential building, the apartment benefits from ample natural light and privileged visual perspectives towards the urban horizon.

The main area of the loft accommodates the living room, kitchen, and dining area. The open-plan design adapts to and takes advantage of the transverse permeability of the space. The living spaces are arranged along the longitudinal direction and defined subtly through carefully selected furniture and flooring.

The interior design is complemented by the selection of iconic furniture pieces such as the Ant Chair by Arne Jacobsen and the Slit Table by Hay. The bespoke living room sofa was designed for this project by ADD Architecture Studio.

The existing living room fireplace, with its distinctive floor-level seating, has been retained and incorporated into the new living room furniture design, creating hidden atmospheric lighting recesses with prism-like forms.

The kitchen area is treated as the primary focal point and designed as a “functional backdrop” defining the aesthetic identity of the space. The combination of dark charcoal-toned wood and warmer-toned marble forms the color palette guiding the overall loft design.

The longitudinal side of the loft is occupied by an extensive terrace created by the “retire” setback. Here, the outdoor dining set Tio Dining Chair & Tio Table by Chris Martin is placed, along with a relaxed seating area featuring Ferm’s Desert Chair, enjoying the unobstructed view towards the iconic “Athens Tower” building.

The previously unified 2-bed bedroom space is divided to create a master bedroom and a guest room, capable of accommodating two couples. Each bedroom adopts a different design identity from the rest of the apartment.

The master bedroom is characterized by a tranquil blue color complementing the wooden construction serving as the headboard, which incorporates nightstands and concealed lighting.

The guest room incorporates influences from Japanese architecture to optimize the use of the limited available space.

The loft is adorned with objects collected during the owner’s travels to countries in North Africa, which, alongside the peach-toned wall coloration, contribute to creating an apartment with an authentic character and a distinctive aesthetic.
