A Stadium That Floats Above the Landscape
Quzhou Stadium by MAD transforms sports architecture into a flowing extension of the surrounding mountains in Zhejiang, China.
Completed in 2022, the 30,000-seat stadium features a sweeping canopy supported at just nine points, with spans reaching up to 95 meters. The minimal structure creates an open seating bowl beneath a roof that appears to float above the ground.
Much of the program is embedded within the landscape, allowing the stadium’s low-profile form to blend with the surrounding mountain ridges. Rainwater management and earth-sheltered spaces further connect the design to its environment.
