Otium

Compactly navigating its site, Otium integrates the brief of family life within the outer extents of the bounding edges to ensure a generous and connected family home emerges.

Wanting to integrate and celebrate as much natural light and ventilation as possible, the home sits both openly connected and intentional in its connections with the landscape, while moments of pause and retreat remain throughout.

Warmed using timber detailing both internally and externally, the connection to the traditional Queenslander home remains ever-present, yet sees a more contemporary reinterpretation unfold across the site. As the home spreads over its multiple levels, key landscape is positioned to circulate the spaces and ensure a consistent natural connection always remains in place. Allowing a spreading out of family life internally and out into the wider outdoor areas, swimming pool and green lawn area.
