Aralia Landscape Architects were commissioned by the Caring Homes Group to design a dementia garden for their new 60+ bed care home in Suffolk. The clients desired a classical garden which would engage the residents, as well as adding value to Park View’s overall brand offering, whilst still conforming to building regulations and disability legislation. Aralia Landscape Architects designed a dementia garden which would encourage activity and provide sensory relief for the Care Home residents. To achieve this, Aralia’s planting was deliberately nostalgic, including a multitude of fragrant and textual planting, in order to capture the memories of the Dementia residents. The Care Home garden also included a ‘Garden Activity’ area, which featured raised vegetable beds at hip height in order to encourage residents to enjoy hands-on growing crops. The Dementia Garden Aralia designed provided an interactive and visually stimulating journey for the residents, incorporating birdbaths, water features and even a supersize garden Chess Set.
Aralia Landscape Architects provided a full Landscape Design & Build service, working with a multi-functional team of sub-contractors on this project.
