Oaklands — Joe Adsett

Oaklands

Straddling both mountainous and river outlooks, Oaklands is a proposal of balance, expressed through a sensitive effortlessness and a textural approach.

Combining both sweeping forms and linear gestures, the response engages with the terrain and sloping site with a sense of purpose, while being its own sculptural addition. Acting as an extension of the landscape, the home is a fusing of heightened luxury together with considered and restrained detailing.

In wanting to remain an enduring addition there is a sense of robustness in the comprising materiality and the grounded nature of the form. With a focus on the views from within, privacy was also a key driving factor in the compression and release of volumes across the site, reacting to the shifting functions of everyday life. Using both darkened timber panelling as a nod to the dense and wooded forests nearby, natural stone and muted greens create a connection to the landscape, with the insertion of concrete as an offering of stability and permanence.
