Oracle shares renderings of pedestrian bridge to Nashville’s East Bank

Nashville’s redevelopment of its East Bank, a neighborhood abutting the Cumberland River, is coming together piece by piece.

Part of the redevelopment is a new pedestrian bridge that will span 863 feet across the Cumberland River from the East Bank to Germantown.

Oracle Corporation is behind the project. The tech giant recently filed documents with the Metro Planning Department for the bridge, and with them new visuals of it.

A long list of architecture and engineering firms are behind the bridge. Foster + Partners is leading the design alongside Hawkins Partners, Schlaich Bergermann Partner, Terracon, and Thomas & Hutton.

Renderings accompanying the permit show the 16-foot-wide bridge’s connections on the east and west banks of the river. Its construction will use a steel-mast supported system, a cable-supported deck, and a cast-in-place concrete deck.

In visuals of the bridge’s East Bank end, the pathway splits around a median. On the bank there will be a connection to Oracle’s future headquarters.

The pedestrian bridge is one of the first details to emerge about the project. Per local news reports, Oracle has purchased many of the remaining parcels in the River North District to build the campus, however, no timeline for its ground breaking or completion has been shared.

On the west bank of the Cumberland River, walkers will descend off the pedestrian bridge into Germantown. Here, the riverfront will be further activated with a pavilion and restaurants.

Construction on the bridge could start as early as this summer. A Metro Planning Department meeting on June 25 will review Oracle’s final site plan for the bridge.

Beyond entertainment venues the East Bank area is slated to be filled in with affordable housing, per a masterplan drafted by PerkinsEastman, and a new headquarters for Oracle Corporation.

Additionally, renderings of the forthcoming Tennessee Performing Arts Center were recently shared and construction on the Titan’s Nissan Stadium is progressing along as the city hopes to host the 2030 Super Bowl.
