The owners of this London roof terrace had recently purchased this apartment and were looking to conduct extensive refurbishment on both the interior and exterior of this Listed London property.

The clients main wish was to green up the roof terrace, so that it provided attractive views from both inside the house and from within the roof terrace itself. Aralia’s design for this London roof terrace maximized floor space with the clever introduction of features such as lush green walls – which provide maximum impact for minimum floor space.  Specimen trees were introduced, designed to come up through the hard wood decking, providing both drama and height – whilst additionally linking the roof terrace to the wider landscape beyond.  In-built banquette seating was designed, with luxurious scatter cushions, to provide a perfect outdoor dining space – which would allow regular entertaining with ease on this tiny roof terrace.

A real focus of this listed roof terrace was to juxtapose the eclectic mix of classical features and contemporary style, which was the look the clients were using for their interior space. Taking the same approach to the exterior roof terrace, Aralia made sure the design included juxtaposing but cohesive elements, such as the contemporary water wall feature, with classical hanging baskets.  A curved planting bed and a further green wall also furthered the classical touches, whilst flooring that featured under-lit glass panels added a modernity and dramatic edge to the contemporary roof terrace.

Aralia worked as Landscape Architects working within a multi-disciplinary consultant team and a range of sub-contractors. Aralia were responsible for concept creation through to design detail.
